Helaman 5

Helaman 5:10-11
And remember also the words which Amulek spake unto Zeezrom, in the city of Ammonihah; for he said unto him that the Lord surely should come to redeem his people, but that he should not come to redeem them in their sins, but to redeem them from their sins. And he hath power given unto him from the Father to redeem them from their sins because of repentance; therefore he hath sent his angels to declare the tidings of the conditions of repentance, which bringeth unto the power of the Redeemer, unto the salvation of their souls.

What does it mean to be saved from your sins? I think it is important for us to remember Christ's role as Savior. He can and will save us from our sins. Not only from the consequences but it is my testimony that he will save us from the sins themselves by giving us power through his atonement to turn from our sins. He will give us power to change our hearts. He will give us power to repent. But we must repent, we must change, in order for him to save us either from the condition of continuing to commit the sins, or from the consequences of the sins we have committed. We do not have to cease from all sin or even completely from the sins in question before we can be saved from them, we can start right now to pray sincerely and have faith in the Savior no matter our current spiritual condition. But, we can not be saved in our sins. Meaning we cannot hope to both be saved and remain in our sins. If we hope to be saved me must also hope to become sinless. Indeed true salvation is receiving exaltation and becoming like the savior and how can we hope to do that and still remain in our sins. Jesus can help us become righteous but he can not exalt us in our wickedness.
